The Preventatists Inorporated is an Australian registered Health Promotion and Education Charity, endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient, (DGR).
At present, we are managed by volunteers, in NSW.
Our Annual General Meeting takes place on Thursday the 20th April at the Dunedoo Bowlo
If you felt charitable, wanted to save a bit of tax, and agreed that it is worth an effort to prevent the awful effects of stress-related disorders like cancer, depression and diabetes, then we are here!
If you, or someone you know would like to learn more, and maybe set up a group of Preventatists, just get in touch and we'll talk about how your group could benefit.
A study published this year ( 2017) (See study here) relates a view that cancer and stress may be connected. Whilst the study may be regarded in some quarters as lacking strength, its outcome is significant.
One thing you will notice however, is that the study talks about "work-related stress", as though that was somehow different from other forms of stress. WHICH IT IS NOT!
All stress is dangerous and has to be avoided! Learn Preventatism......
Incoming Distress, is Imaginary Danger - and has the capacity to become Stress !
Stress should not be described in categories, individual situations, or attributed to particular occupations, because:
"All distress, or imaginary danger, is potentially dangerous to human health and well-being".
1. Why is it called Preventatism?
Because it is intended to prevent unavoidable and inevitable Incoming Distress turning into Stress in a human body and mind, and in doing this, Preventatism prevents the unwellness caused by stress-related disorders.
2. What is “Incoming Distress”?
Incoming Distress, or I.D., is the physically non-dangerous, unavoidable and unwelcome events in anyone’s life, the effects of which are unwanted by and undesirable for, the recipient human. Of themselves, these events should have no significance for the health of the recipient. Anger, grief, frustration and similar events are major types of I.D. experienced by humans.
3. What is Stress?
Stress is an engineering term, which refers to loads, forces and strains on structures and mechanical devices. When we talk about stress on living parts of our bodies, it has the potential for disease and unwellness.
Stress doesn’t “cause” disease, but creates the conditions within a body, in which disease can readily thrive and grow.
“Prevent the stress; prevent the unwellness”
4. Why is stress dangerous?
Preventatists believe that all stress is dangerous and should be strongly avoided. Stress creates random, spasmodic, and often chronic, chaos in a body, as the result of undefended ID, stress can create the conditions that lead to diabetes, cancer, depression, several heart [cardiac], and digestive problems, in addition to many other serious disorders of mind and body. Recently it has been postulated that stress has the effect of tending to damage brain cells, and promoting the onset of ageing.
5. How is all this known?
Until these past two years or so, Preventatism could only state theories. Preventatism was developed as a theory back in 1959, and became in the 1970s and 1980s a therapeutic system for people who had developed a stress-related disorder. It is now more widely used as a defence method for people who are well and healthy and want to stay that way. Since around 2013, there have been published over 150 studies, which related stress to a considerable number of disorders and adverse conditions, including all those mentioned above. Stress is now being seen as the threat to wellbeing that Preventatists have always thought it is.
6. Why is “Fear” not the same as “Anxiety”?
Preventatists propose, and believe absolutely, that fear is not an emotion. Many people talk about "fear" when they mean "anxiety".
Fear is a specific natural protective response to a real-time danger, identified and presented by one of the senses; touch, taste, sight, sound or sight.
If a danger is sensed, it is acted upon, without reference to the person’s conscious mind.
Preventatists think that the ID or Imaginary Dangers created by Incoming Distress send the body’s responses into turmoil, and this leads to stress in the tissues of the body and mind, because humans have yet to evolve sufficiently to be able to automatically defend against IDs.
7. How does Preventatism work?
In short – very well! In Preventatist thinking, prevention means “Not letting the disorder start”, and not “early detection”. Therefore, if the responses to imaginary danger can be cut, like a surge guard protecting a computer from an electrical spike, then stress will be prevented from forming in the body, and creating the conditions in which unwellness can grow. Preventatism is a simple, learned philosophy which can provide permanent defence against stress 24/7, so it is quite unlike meditation, yoga and so on, because it is a sound structure, and non-spiritual, non-medical and non-religious. It cuts the link between the imagination and the reality of unwellness. It is very economic, but most effective when people meet regularly in a workshop and develop their own defence.
8. How do you know it works?
There are two ways. But you have to understand that the cost of setting up a gold-standard study of Preventatism would cost millions that we don’t have, and over many years we have learned that Governments and universities don’t seem to be interested in promoting a non-drug, non-profit idea.
However, we are confident about the efficacy of Preventatism for two good reasons.
Firstly; when it was being used primarily as a therapeutic technique for people who suffered a stress-related disorder, Preventatism provided relief to thousands. Not everyone, but most. This was observable and became a normal outcome. For example, people experiencing problems with anger, anxiety, grief and related problems gained comfortable lives by using Preventatism. It is true that not everyone can use the techniques, since it is a philosophy with interesting facets, but most people can.
Secondly, in 2001, a study of those people who had used Preventatism to assist in getting rid of the tobacco habit was published, and the results showed that Preventatism had a better outcome than a specific drug prescribed for tobacco abstention. In fact, Preventatism showed twice the successful quit rate of the chemical method over a period of 12 months from quitting.
Since being used as a technique for healthy people who wish to remain so, there have been many good and successful outcomes over the decades that it has been used as such. The Preventatists Incorporated will soon be seeking to train more counsellors and similar professionals in the methodology of presenting Preventatism as a therapy and as a preventative.
We think that the more people we can help to keep themselves and their families out of the unwellness loop the more cash we shall save from the National Budget, and we shall all benefit.
9. Is it Expensive?
When compared to the cost of acquiring one of the stress-related disorders, Preventatism is far cheaper. Some estimates show that a bill of $50,000 is possible for a person in cancer treatment, which is extra to the amounts charged to the care systems..........................................................
The Preventatists Incorporated is an Australian registered Charitable not-for-profit organisation, which meets wherever there are members wanting to stay healthy. Learning the basic structure of the techniques is usually free, depending on the location and associated arrangements, after which, if the person wishes, they can seek to join a group of like-minded Preventatists who regularly meet in comfortable, informal surroundings, and develop the use of Preventatism for themselves.
This assists in keeping the defence alive in the individual, since we are all prone to forget and let stress back in.
From an employer’s perspective, it makes great economic sense to maintain a workplace free of down-time through stress.
In Dorrigo, Preventatists meet on the first Tuesday of the month at the Heritage Hotel.....

Consider the following:
These figures are the approximate costs of three human disorders each year, in Australia:
CANCER: 4,500,000,000 (Cancer Council Australia)
DEPRESSION: 12,600,000,000 (Beyond Blue)
DIABETES: 6,570,000,000 (Colaiguri et al., 2009a)
i.e. Twenty-three and a half billion dollars + ! Each year....!
These figures are said to exclude those costs that the individual has to bear.
Now, suppose that we are right in our claim that Preventatism can prevent these three diseases.
Suppose we are right in only one percent of cases.
The saving to the Australian economy could be in the order of.....
$236,700,000 a year.
That is a big saving in anyone's book!
