Glen crafts art pieces from timber, gemstone and rock specimens found during fossicking/photographic expeditions around the New England Tableland and outback opal fields. His diverse body of art interests includes photography, woodcarving, lapidary. pyrography and bonsai-related arts of suiseki, saikei and penjing that are a natural fit with his love of traveling and collecting rocks.

Suiseki is the Japanese art of stone appreciation. Collected stones are used to represent a natural landscape or object within a landscape and presented on a suitable timber base that compliment the stone and story. Mountain tops, caves, islands and coastal scenes are common subjects. Similarly saikei (Japanese) and penjing (Chinese) use plants and rocks to represent a landscape miniaturised into a tray or pot.

A notable characteristic of his photography is simplicity and intentional removal of detail not needed to convey the visual story. While the conventional method to achieve this is careful framing, he also uses the inherant shallow depth of field (Bokeh) of the telephoto lens to isolate the subject; leaving a soft out of focus foreground and /or background.

His original works are available through several local outlets including the Dorrigo 2453 Gallery. For more information email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 66572343.
