The Arts Council of The Dorrigo will present the Creative Mountain Arts Exhibition (CMAE) during the Easter holidays, 13-23 April 2017. This wonderful community event has been held annually for 27 years, and attracts over 2,000 visitors.

The CMAE is a showcase for the outstanding artworks made by our gifted artists and artisans living on the Dorrigo Plateau. The exhibition includes: painting and drawing, sculpture, ceramics, glassware, etchings, woodwork, textiles, jewellery, and photography. The theme for 2017 is Ahead in the Clouds. Artists are invited to imagine our future on the Dorrigo Plateau, whether utopian or dystopian!

This year will feature the Youth Art Exhibition, open to all artists aged between 15 and 21 living in the 2453 postcode. It’s a great opportunity for young artists to show how they interpret the world, and share insights and creativity that may otherwise stay hidden in bedrooms and sketch books. The display includes the results of two youth workshops with Pamela Denise, supported by a grant from the Bellingen Shire Council Community Fund.

The popular Shoebox Sculpture competition is also returning. Entrants are encouraged to produce a sculpture of a size that will fit into a shoebox, and the quirkier the sculpture the better! The judging will be by People’s Choice, and a $100 prize will be awarded at the end of the exhibition.

Tickets for the annual CMAE raffle are now on sale at Gallery 2453. Tickets are $2 each, or $5 for three. Drop in to Gallery 2453 to see the stunningly beautiful raffle prizes on display.

Opening Night is Wednesday, 12 April at 7.30 PM. Entry is $2, and refreshments will be available.

Please contact the Convenor, Sandra Pitkin for more information, either on 0409 515 226 or by email to; or go to the Arts Council’s website at

The CMAE, a subcommittee of the Arts Council of The Dorrigo, is run by a dedicated band of volunteers. All proceeds from the exhibition are used to support and promote art and cultural activities on the Dorrigo Plateau.
